Facebook has conquered the online social activities of people. ‘Feed scrolling’ is possibly the most addictive “pass time activity” for all. Now the social giant has decided to go one step further by bringing ‘social playground’ to the corporate world.
“Facebook at work” has been in news for quite some time, and it is now set to be launched in the next few weeks.
What is Facebook@Work?
Facebook at work operates as a completely separate account, it is different from your personal Facebook account or page or business page. It acts as a tool that you can use to interact with coworkers and share timely updates in a ‘fun manner’. Things you share using your work account will only be visible to other people at your company.
Being a B2B tool, it is not free. Facebook at Work’s director Julien Codorniou in a recent interview, said “Facebook believes it can keep individual employees engaged with the product, so it’s betting on a pricing plan that charges companies “per monthly active user” instead of charging a flat rate per company.
Here is a video by Facebook explaining how “Facebook at work” can be used. Their pitch is
A connected workplace is a
more productive workplace
The tool is very similar to Slack or Yammer. But the key selling point of ‘Facebook at work’ is its functionality and UI familiarity. Tools like Slack, Yammer or even sales force need training for the staff to be able to use the tools effectively. Whereas, with Facebook at work, the training and the learning curve for the employees is close to NIL as everyone today is familiar with Facebook’s intuitive functionality and user interface.
The tool comes with some great features to help with team building and communications.. Some features are:
- Groups: Groups help make decisions faster and keep teams on the same page.
- Corporate News Feed: This is similar to the personal news feed. News Feed shows the things that matter to the team members, as they happen.
- Chat: Instant messaging among individual team members
- Events: This feature helps teams to arrange company events faster by bringing everyone on same page and up-to-speed
Currently Facebook claims that hundreds of companies are already using the tool!
