Content marketing can be your best Internet Marketing strategy
For all new bloggers out there, do you really think that having an eye-catching, bold design webpage is enough? Think again. You could be missing out on some key yet important factors that are essential for attracting quality traffic and keeping them engaged.
You may have a blog that looks really great and addition of video clips can make it more attractive. But again, is that enough? Creating content and sending it across to your audience, and wait for sales/ traffic/ clicks/ actions to rise?
Well, this strategy might work sometimes and can bring some success to certain business owners, but it is not an option for all entrepreneurs or bloggers. CEO of Outbrain (Outbrain is a content delivery platform that publishes articles on behalf of their clients on high-profile websites) says “you will be able to succeed only if you are creative about marketing your content online.”
And I agree to his statement 100%. So, here are two questions I asked myself and which you should be asking yourself too:
- Which one of my digital contents is outstanding?
- Is my content marketing strategy good enough to ensure that it will be found and appreciated by potential viewers?
My answers to the above questions weren’t quite impressive. I started to work on these and it took me quite a while to produce quality content. In the process here’s what I learnt about content marketing.
To ensure that your content qualifies as a recommended reading, (recommended reading = kind of article that readers bookmark) you will need a brilliant article that will work regardless of the marketing. However, this works only when you already have a large audience base. If you are new to the blogging sphere, you need market your content as much as possible and also ensure that your marketing efforts are not thinly veiled sales pushes that your potential prospects can see right through. This will simply fail to give you positive results.
Here are some of the do’s and don’ts in content marketing that every copywriter and marketer should take note of before creating content for your readers.
DO’s
- Know “What”: what is that your prospects or target customers want to read. It is always beneficial to find things that interest your prospects and customers; it may be through social media, surveys or other channels.
- A/B Split tests: It is better to test couple of communication formats when interacting with your prospective clients. For instance, you can opt for two different email campaigns or two different copies for your subscription form box, so that it becomes easier for you to find out which one of them appeals more to your target customers. This is an ideal strategy for content marketing.
- Giveaway: If you want to proper in your online business, you need to let people know that you know the best about your products and services. So, that they feel you are an expert in specific segments. Therefore, don’t be a scrooge and freely circulate your e-book, brochures, white papers and other relevant documents that provide information.
- Content sharing: This is another important aspect of content marketing. It is better to share your content through various social media platforms, email marketing and other channels of distribution for customer feedback. You can make use of such feedback for future references.
DONT’s
- Do not pitch the same message to all of your target customers. You need to classify your prospects into different segments on your subscribers list as per different criteria to have positive business results.
- Do not forget to measure the objectives of your content. If you do not have a content marketing strategy in place, then you need to start doing it. It plays an important role in attracting warm leads and measuring content marketing results should be your top priority.
- Do not quote or use information from another site and not mention. Always mention sources and preferably link back to the original source.
