Facebook Content to drive engagement in 2015

Swapnil D.

Social media marketing is essential in today’s marketing world. The downside is not everyone that turns to the platform makes the best use of it. Often times, failure is a result of simple errors that repel potential customers. If you wish to drive engagement in 2015, these are five creative strategies you should consider while using with your Facebook content.

1. Reflective Question

A trend that promises great results with Facebook content is that of posting nostalgic questions. This is where you ask your audiences a question that causes them to remember something great that happened in the past. For this strategy to work, you have first to understand your audience. Second, you need to accompany your question with a picture. There is no better way of starting a conversation and promoting ‘Likes’ than through a nostalgic question which makes your audience stop the scrolling of their feed to share their answer.
Don’t be afraid to be social. Research your audience and ask the right questions.  Here is a good example of how Moz has used this strategy

2. Ask for ‘Likes’ indirectly

Facebook ‘Likes’ are essential in product marketing. The more ‘Likes’ a post gets the more people get to see it. With that being said, you have to be creative when creating posts. One such strategy was suggested by Joshua Parkinson in one of his posts on post planner blog. You can consider this to be your status; ‘By a show of ‘Likes’, how many of you …?’ You can replace the ‘…’ with anything you want ranging from ‘are reading this on your tablets?’ or ‘have a torn pulse?’ or ‘wake at 9am?’ and so on. More likes mean more visibility and more visibility leads to more followers See this example by post planner.

3. Question followed by Intended ‘Like’

People love to be told what to do next but nobody wants to be commanded. You have to be careful when calling to action. A good way of asking for ‘Likes’ is to consider what an audience would think of your post then ask them to ‘like’ if they feel exactly that. For example, you can post a picture of a delicious-looking meal then tell the audience to like if they are salivating.  A similar strategy is used by Secret Indian Recipe an Indian food website

4. Use Emoticons

Plain text does not effectively express emotions. This is why emoticons exist. Do not ignore them. Something as simple as a smiley face can increase your ‘Likes’ by over 57%, shares by 33% and comments by 33%. This is according AMEX OPEN Forum infographic emoticons can make a big difference to your engagement rates.

5. Videos or Podcasts

Videos are always well received on Facebook. Everybody wants to watch something interesting. You can post a fun or informative video. Interviews with great personalities will also work. Next to the video, don’t forget to add a catchy title and a description that arouses curiosity. You don’t have to post your own videos; you can share interesting videos from third parties. Also note that now, videos uploaded on facebook directly get more views than youtube or video links shared. According to findings by SocialBaker, natively uploaded videos on Facebook are winning nearly an 80 percent share of all video interactions happening on the social media site. In December last year SocialBaker also reported, the number of Facebook video posts now exceeds the number of YouTube video posts.

Low page engagement leads to a drop in ‘Likes’ and people may consider un-liking you after that. However, using different types of posts and making more adjustments can revamp your page. In addition to the aforementioned tips in creating Facebook content, you should keep learning and experimenting with different posts. You will always do better when you know better.
