Facebook’s tag line has always been “Find the people who matter to you the most”. This tagline has now been updated to “Find the people and posts that matter to you most”
Facebook’s New Feature was rolled out last week. This seems to be a minor update for Facebook, but for marketers,  business owners and for avid Facebook users this has come as a boon. The feature enables users to search for specific videos, photos, textual posts via keywords. This feature was initially rolled out in the US alone but now it is available in major countries on desktop and on iOS. Considering the large number of users on other platforms it will not take time for this feature to be available on Android as well.
How this works?
To simply put it, It works exactly the same as Google search. Think of it as a Google search within Facebook for everything – Posts, People, Pages, Places, Apps, Events and Groups.
For example, if you are looking for to hire a party planner  for your birthday party, and you remember seeing a related post by someone, you will possibly search using keywords like “party planner” “Singapore” and hit search. You will see a stream of posts which include the two keywords.
It would be event better if you knew who had posted about the party planner, so if you remember it was Erica Smith, add in her name and the search will work more efficiently saving you time to scroll down till the right post.
To try this, I did a search on “my name” plus keywords ‘social media’. The results were impressive and my posts dating back to as old as 2013 with similar keywords in them sprung up.
This feature not only works for profile names but also for companies or fan pages. Similar to other search engines if you add the company name or page name along with your keywords it will only show you the posts only by that company using similar keywords. I did a search on ‘Online marketing statistics’ for company ‘Tech in Asia’. The search results that came up were all by the same company, the keywords were not exactly matched but were similar.
What does all this mean for your fan or business page?
This feature will help your posts reach out organically to a larger audience. your posts will potentially pop up when a user is searching for specific keywords used in your post. The BIG change here. is that your posts which were initially carved up to visually attract for “likes” and made interesting for “shares” and “Comments” will now have to be pumped up a bit more for Serach Engine Optimization. The SEO factor comes to play here within Facebook. Your posts need to be well “keyworded” in order to appear in Facebook search results.
What about existing posts?
Well, According to BusinessInsider, currently posts are ranked by the post time, post engagement and the levels of relationships. The posts from first-degree friends will be ranked higher than the public posts from the friends of your friends.
The Facebook’s New Feature is definitely a good news for everyone. It will  help remove the clutter from your new feed while trying to look for something that you  want. All an all, an excellent move by Facebook.
