What is Quora and how can it help in branding?

Quora is a question and answer website where questions are created, edited, answered and also organized based on the community of users. The website can help develop your personal brand in many ways including giving you more exposure to thousands of active members. All in all, there are a few things you need to know about Quora. <Wiki>

  • Be conscious of what you write
    According to Leonid S. Knyshov, the most important thing you should understand as an online marketer on Quora is that everything you write will always be subject to being republished and being taken out of context. This is why you have to be conscious of everything you post on the platform. Creating content that is clear can prevent misunderstandings some of which might tarnish your brand.
    Always ask yourself this before adding a post; can the answer or comment you are about to post hurt you by being a top story on CNN? If the answer is yes, then don’t post it.
  • Focus on topics you are conversant with
    The key is to pick topics you are knowledgeable in and craft content that is of high quality and audience focused. Avoid writing answers to questions you cannot contribute as an expert. If you do this and just mention your company name, you might end up tarnishing the reputation of your brand.
  • Have a topic specific bio
    Another important thing to do on Quora is to set your topic-specific bio. This will convey your authority. You should then attach the bio on all the answers you give.
  • An important point to remember is to refrain from directly mentioning your business’ name in your answers. You should only mention it in the topic bio and on your Quora profile. In addition to that, don’t add a ‘signature’ at the end of your posts. The signatures look tacky and may cause you to be noticed in a negative way. Your topic-specific bio is sufficient.
  • Comply with policy
    Complying with the Quora’s policy is also a great thing. The last thing you would want to happen to you is for your account to be suspended simply because you violated the terms of use. Quora has a ‘Be Nice, Be Respectiful’ policy. Follow it. Moreover, Quora requires that you use your real name and as of 2015, the service does not allow company accounts. You can only use your name as your brand.
  • Be active; be conscious of your answers and follow the policy and you will succeed on Quora. You should also keep learning more about the platform.
