Recently eBizmba (website) published a long list of top 15 Social networking Sites. Their list is purely based on the Alexa global traffic rank and numbers. The top position on their list is (obviously) taken by Facebook with an estimated of whooping 900 million unique monthly visitors. Next on the list is Twitter with about 310 million unique monthly visitors, followed by LinkedIn, Pinterest, G+ and so on.
But does a marketer really look for numbers alone? Well, answer to that is Yes and No. As much as we marketers look for the quantity the quality of links matter just as much. You must have guessed it by now, We are taking about ‘back linking’.
When it comes to Social Networking sites, getting Do Follow links is as important as the likes, follows or retweets. Do follow links not only help increase traction but it is one of the best tools for SEO purposes. To understand back linking in details, have a look at one of our previous posts on back linking strategy here.
Here are our favorite top 5 social networking sites recommended for all marketers:
1) Google+
Well, not all areas of G+ give do follow links, but when you add a link under the “Link” option in “Share what’s new” it creates a Do Follow link. The other areas on G+ such as comment or links shared directly in the share box are all No Follow links.
Using Google Plus majorly for your posts will not only help in getting follow links, but will also help in boosting the Page rank of your web page.
2) YouTube
Videos can do wonders. Content in form of a video is not only attractive but also engaging. But one important thing to note here is that link placed on YouTube’s description bar is a No Follow Link. To get best out of YouTube place your link on the YouTube channel header, as shown in the picture. You can create multiple accounts for multiple websites and have your links placed in the header section.
3) Pinterest
We all know that if not videos, pictures and graphics are the next best engaging tools. The key is to attract more views and engage. Pinterest does just that. You can take advantage of a quality back link to your website from Pinterest. Just go into settings of your accounts page and under edit profile add in your link. You need to verify the link as well.
4) Tumblr
Tumblr started off by allowing any links to be Do Follow links posted anywhere in the blog. But recently they have changed this. However Tumblr still gives an option to share a link from within your content bar which is a quality back link.
5) LinkedIn
Finally, the last social network and one which many marketers use is LinkedIn. All links on LinkedIn are in fact Do Follow Links. But Google, does not value or let’s say does not index these link from LinkedIn. What has been noticed though is that the links from under “Publications” sections of your profile are quality Do follow links.
