Before Twitter came on the scene, say in 2006, web publishers used to prepare viral copy reports. Things have changed now after the advent of Twitter and today every web publisher understands its value in terms of content visibility.

The way things have changed on the web regarding how information spreads, the credit goes to Twitter. Just a couple of years back people used to blog to share links but now it is through micro-blogging.

For publishers there are two choices. Either they can still continue with the earlier process of spreading content through blog links and Google juice, or embrace Twitter’s platform. But the fact is that Twitter’s ReTweeting generates quality traffic which in turn increases your subscribers substantially.

ReTweeting means whatever you have said is repeated by people adding a link to it. To get your content go viral or to plan your viral marketing campaign on Twitter, you need to consider five factors.

1. Asking People to ReTweet
If you want people to ReTweet then you simply have to request them to do so. When they ReTweet, they actually repost your request to ReTweet. In this way your request garners the credibility and influence of users who have ReTweeted. Compared to other tweets, ReTweets carry the word “please” more often. Check out the ReTweet mapper where you will notice that a large number of requests for ReTweets start with “please ReTweet” or “please RT” in brief. When users ReTweet your request they start the process all over again. There are also other request notes that are commonly used like check out, follow this person, and please vote and so on.

2. Choosing a Right Time
On Twitter, viral content is shared more often during particular hours or days. Regarding days, you will come across more ReTweets on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. And the timing for frequent ReTweets is from 9am to 6pm EST. Therefore ReTweeting of your content should be done accordingly.

3. Links
Almost 70% of ReTweets that you receive come with a link. Marketers will find it very helpful because a link is very important for ReTweetable Tweets.

4. Attestation by Renowned People
Viral messages generally are endorsed or attested by socially well known figures so that it has more impact on other users. This increases the likelihood of more ReTweets after every ReTweet. Moreover to encourage organic ReTweeting you can request users to ReTweet your message back to you. A well known user while sharing your content will lend his authority to your message as well as your request.

5. Added Value
Some experts may suggest adding value to your ReTweet by including something exciting. But that cannot be foretold as value in ReTweets comes in a variety of formats. You can choose whichever suits the context of your ReTweet.

Apart from these five factors, you can also consider others which according to you can serve the purpose. So research, identify and utilize accordingly. A well planned Twitter Viral marketing campaign can do wonders.
